Outdoor sculpting

Had a great day doing an outdoor sculpting event with Latoya at the Museum on Main in Pleasanton.
The sculpture is off to a good start, but needs a few more hours of work.

I will probably give this one to Latoya as reward for posing for so long.

Update...
Here is the bust after a bit more sculpting:
I still need to add a lot more hair , and define the lower ends of the scarf.

And this is a bit later, Still only about 1/2 finished with the hair.

Quick Nap #1

Starting a new one today - "Latoya - Quick Nap #1"
This will be a good opportunity for me to experiment with making a silicone mold from a very low profile form. I plan to make the mold and then cast sculptures in various materials.

early rough-in of the form:

this is after a bit more work, but still a long way to go:

Latoya "OneEye" becomes Latoya "Pose #2"

I changed the look of this sculpture to something much simpler.
I still have a lot of work to do with details but I'm happy with the overall composition.

Latoya - "OneEye"

Latoya - "OneEye"
This will be a bronze about 21" high.

Latoya is an incredible model. Her physical beauty is obvious, but what's more important to me is that she fills every pose with her personality.
It's a significant challenge to capture the many layers of interest she embodies in the pose.

This is about 1/2 completed, but the second half takes much longer than the first.

This is the first time I have used plasticine clay instead of water based ceramic clay. The working process is very different, and so far I like it a lot.
The pipe in her back supports an internal armature made from pliable wire. This will be left in, and when the model is made the foundry will plug the hole where the pipe was.

Quick sculpture "sketch"

This is a quick sculpture I did yesterday form a model. I don't plan to take it any further with detail.
This was intended as a quick "sketch" just for practice.
It's about 20" high and took about 2 1/2 hours.

"Ethiopian girl with beads"
This sculpture is completed. I will now need to dry for a month or so before it's ready to be fired
