Quick Nap #1

Starting a new one today - "Latoya - Quick Nap #1"
This will be a good opportunity for me to experiment with making a silicone mold from a very low profile form. I plan to make the mold and then cast sculptures in various materials.

early rough-in of the form:

this is after a bit more work, but still a long way to go:

...now with some texture to the blanket on the pillow:

Latoya "OneEye" becomes Latoya "Pose #2"

I changed the look of this sculpture to something much simpler.
I still have a lot of work to do with details but I'm happy with the overall composition.

Latoya - "OneEye"

Latoya - "OneEye"
This will be a bronze about 21" high.

Latoya is an incredible model. Her physical beauty is obvious, but what's more important to me is that she fills every pose with her personality.
It's a significant challenge to capture the many layers of interest she embodies in the pose.

This is about 1/2 completed, but the second half takes much longer than the first.

This is the first time I have used plasticine clay instead of water based ceramic clay. The working process is very different, and so far I like it a lot.
The pipe in her back supports an internal armature made from pliable wire. This will be left in, and when the model is made the foundry will plug the hole where the pipe was.
