I can make a custom sculptures of what ever you want.
Usually I do portraits of people, but I can also make sculptures of pets, cars, or anything else you want to preserve the memory of forever.
Process
A handmade sculpture takes a combination of drawing and/or sculpting from the subject, and many more hours by me refining details from photos you supply or carefully lit photos I take at no extra cost.
I can also work only from photos if the subject is not available. Please provide many photos showing all sides and various positions or ask me to do them.
Privacy
Private commissions are kept confidential unless you tell me it's ok to show the sculpture to others.
Costs
I am always happy to provide free estimates for sculptures. Tell me a bit about what you want, and provide a few photos by email or meet with me personally. I will make a quick, small sample model ( maquette ) for you to approve. All of this is done at no cost or obligation.
A very small ( 8"x8" ) might be as low as $200 and a very large sculpture might be $ 4,000 or more. most commissions are around $1,000
I’m sure you will find that the cost is lower than you would have expected for handmade, personalized art.
Your sculpture can be ceramic clay, plaster, modern non-toxic composites, or true bronze.I can help you choose the best material for your needs.

Family Portrait
After hanging in the gallery for a couple months, my family portrait is now hanging over our mantel where it belongs.
This was carefully scaled to look good over the fireplace. I work with clients to make sure the size , lighting, and framing all work together so their portrait sculptures have maximum impact.

Portrait of Leroi
We had great weather at the Treasure Island Flea this weekend. Today I worked on my long neglected portrait of Leroi.
TI Flea is a dog-friendly event so Mr Leroi had a lot of admirers. I started this sculpture a long time ago but put it away for a few months. Today I saw it with fresh eyes and made really good progress towards an an expressive likeness.

Forest Spirit Series
This series of sculptures is intended to be a window for contemplation and meditation. It could never be a substitute for spending time amongst the ancients for real, but for days when it's not possible to be there I hope it's a comforting substitute.
This first sculpture - "Forest Spirit/- Rebirth" is about the timeless cycles of death, decay, and rebirth that's integral to the health of a forest.
I have sculpted contrasting elements of life/death, male/female, ancient/new , tall/short, close/far etc. The scene is based on a photo I took at Big Basin Redwoods State Park a couple months ago. My friend and model Meghan Atziri helped me find a way to show the new tree hugging and consoling the decaying stump. The lower tree branches help to tell the story of the Forest Spirit.
I hope to hint at the vast scales of time and size in an old growth forest as well as it's interesting textures.
John Steinbeck wrote “ The redwoods, once seen, leave a mark or create a vision that stays with you always. No one has ever successfully painted or photographed a redwood tree. The feeling they produce is not transferable. From them comes silence and awe. It's not only their unbelievable stature, nor the color which seems to shift and vary under your eyes, no, they are not like any trees we know, they are ambassadors from another time. “ . I agree but it’s fun to try anyway.

Free sculpture of your profile photo…
I’m working on a new idea to make sculptures from Tumblr or Facebook profile photos. If you have a cool/beautiful/interesting profile photo and want a free sculpture of it please contact me or leave a comment here soon. SF Bay area preferred, but not required. The sculpture will be a low-relief square, probably about 8" x8".
I will only do a few for free, I plan do do it as a business after I do these test sculptures. My criteria for choosing who gets the free ones will be based on my artistic interest, therefore totally unfair.
Free, but you will need to sign a model release form so I can use your photo.

Family Portrait Sculpture
I have been working on this one at shows and public demos for a long time. I'm happy it's completed and is now on view at Blackhawk Gallery in Blackhawk Plaza.
This is based on the photo of my family from about 10 years ago. It's scaled to look good over a fireplace mantle so it's rather large ( 30" x 40" x 3" ) .
Contact me if you want a sculpture of your family, pet, company logo, or anything else.

Custom sculptures
I can make custom sculptures of you, your family, and/or your pets.
A handmade sculpture takes at least 6 hours of live sculpting from the model, and many more hours by me refining details from photos. Usually you should expect three, 2 hour sittings. Most models enjoy the time listening to their music and it’s not really necessary to remain still.
I often work only from photos if the subject is not available. Please provide many photos showing all sides and various positions. I prefer to take the photos myself to make sure they give me all the views I need.
Costs ?
I am always happy to provide free estimates for sculptures. Tell me a bit about what you want, and provide a few photos by email or meet with me personally.
I will make a quick, small sample model ( maquette ) for you to approve.
All of this is done at no cost or obligation.
I’m sure you will find that the cost is lower than you would have expected for handmade, personalized art. I will give you options for the size and materials of the final sculpture. If your sculpture is to be cast in bronze, I will charge you for my sculpting, and pass on the foundry costs at no additional markup other than a $200 charge for my supervision at the foundry.
